David Douglass

October 13, 1942 — September 20, 2024

David Warren Douglass made his entrance to the world via Brooklyn, New York on October 13, 1942. The first son and eldest child of Warren and Betty (nee Clauson), he and his younger brother and sister grew up in New Jersey, and David served in the Navy before his marriage in 1965,

Although they met on a blind date arranged by mutual friends for New Year's Eve, Dave and his beloved wife Carolyn (née Touhill) might as well have been designed for each other. They shared a sense of humor that carried them through 59 years of marriage and passed down to their three children, son David Jr. and daughters Beth and Amy.

Dave's family had deep roots in Connecticut, and he and Carol raised their family in Milford, starting out in a house built by his great uncle, next door to the one built by his grandfather and great-grandfather. Dave and Carol relocated to Cleveland, Tennessee for Dave's work in late 1996, and if any more time were wasted mentioning his job, Dave would haunt this writer forever.

He worked hard, but as a means to care for those he loved. For himself, he would have preferred to spend his time fishing or hunting or tinkering with a project car, as he did after his retirement.

He was proud of his Scottish heritage and the Douglass tartan kilt he wore for special occasions. He had a taste for single malt whiskey and enjoyed a glass of Drambuie at the end of the day. He collected guns, from a Civil War pistol to black powder rifles, kept a fishing rod in his truck, and founded an exclusive Men's Club in his basement with a membership of 2-Dave and his beloved grandson and best pal, Josh.

Dave is survived by his loving wife Carolyn; three children, David, Beth (Ciamei) and Amy; two grandchildren, Joshua Ciamei and Allison Gilbert; and two great-grandchildren, Miles and Amelia Gilbert. He also leaves behind a brother, Bruce Douglass, and a sister, Susan Rentler (Dwight Rentler), nieces, nephews and friends who will never forget him.

Services will be held on Thursday, October 3rd at 11:00 AM at St. Therese Church, 900 Clingan Ridge Dr NW, Cleveland, TN.
