Clifford E. “Clink” Barger passed away on Thursday evening, August 20, 2020 at a local health facility at the age of 91. He was born in Bradley County on September 16, 1928 and was a lifelong resident of Cleveland. Clifford was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean War and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Clifford became a Christian at an early age and in his younger life was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. In 1981, along with his wife and son, he became a member of First Baptist Church where he remained a faithful member.
Clifford loved to be outdoors, whether mowing or making garden. He loved his family and enjoyed having people together for fun and fellowship especially hosting family reunions at his family’s home place. But he had no greater love than that for his wife of 64 years, Patsy (Styles) Barger and his son Terry Barger.
Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Barger, Sr. and Maggie Copeland Barger. In addition to his parents, he outlived all nine of his siblings: Brothers Frank, Jr., Johnny, Alvin, Edwin and Jimmy; Sisters, Frances McClanahan, Dorothy McClanahan, Jewell Gobble, and Jean Wainwright.
Along with his wife and son, he is survived by brother-in-law Lynn Gobble, sister-in-law Judy Barger and cousin Ann Hysinger Gray. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
There will be a graveside service for the family at the Barger Cemetery, Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 11:00 AM with military honors. The Reverends Tom Wickes and Tony McClanahan will officiate. Due to the current health crisis, there will be no visitation. Pallbearers will be nephews and great-nephews, Steve Barger, Kirk Gobble, Jake McClanahan, John Paul Hurst, Larry Rainey and Luke Rainey. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary McClanahan, Tony McClanahan, Randy Styles and Doug Payne.
The family would like to express a special word of thanks to the staff of Signature Health Care and At Home Primary Care for their compassion and care.
