Obituary
Christine Townsend Sells Brown Steele of Chattanooga passed away at her home on Tuesday January 8, 2013. Mrs. Steele, 93, was a daughter of the late Elijah McPherson Sells and Charline Leroy Jones Sells of Trenton, GA. She attended Central High School in Chattanooga and worked for many years in support of her family until retiring from the General Motors Corporation in Detroit, MI.
A gifted and fun loving artist, Mrs. Steele loved to travel. She was a born teacher and avid naturalist. The ever present smile on her face and joy in her heart brought light and happiness to everyone she encountered.
In addition to her parents Mrs. Steele was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Edward Steele, to whom she was married for 33 years, her brother Thomas Ellerbe Sells and her son Matt Davis Brown.
Survivors include her sisters Margaret Gurley of Arlington, VA and her identical twin Pattie Stapp of Chattanooga, daughters-in-law Lin Brown of Bethesda, MD and Teri Steele of Winston-Salem, NC, daughter Penny Steele of Chattanooga , son Ed Steele (Krystyna) of Ringgold, GA, grandchildren Jamie Steele (Elena) of Waterford, MI, Bradley Steele (Jamie) and Shawn Steele (Phyllis) of Advance, NC, Julia Flaherty (Dan) of Braintree, MA, and Louis Brown (Perla) of El Paso, TX, great grandchildren Brady, Evan, and Gavin Steele; Nate and Anna Flaherty, and numerous other extended family members and friends.
A memorial service celebrating her life is planned for 3:30 PM on Saturday January 12, 2013 in the community room of the St. Elmo Court Apartments located at 4625 St. Elmo Avenue in Chattanooga, TN.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Chattanooga Children’s Discovery Museum.
