Charles Martin Thornburg, Jr

Charles "Sonny" Thornburg, Jr, 68 of the Hillsview Community went Home to be with the Lord August 27, 2024. A lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was the son of the late Charles "Moe" and May Thornburg. He graduated from Calhoun High School in 1974 and attended Cleveland State Community College. He retired from Bowater after 37 years.

Sonny loved sports, especially the Tennessee Vols, Chattanooga Mocs, and McMinn County High School where he enjoyed watching his great-nephews Bryce and Marshall Goodner play football. He enjoyed camping, going to the beach with his family and playing golf. He was a loving, dedicated, and hardworking husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Vicky Bunch Thornburg; daughters: Heather (Adam) Stoner, and Kim (Steven) Knox; grandchildren: Ashten Pilkey, Nolan Pilkey, Anna Cate Stoner, Jaxson Thornburg, and Addi Claire Stoner; brothers, Mike (Vicki) Thornburg and Jeff (Kristine) Thornburg; sister, Michelle (Barry) Griffin; and many special nieces and nephews.

No funeral services will be held at this time. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
