On October 3, 2020, Charles S. Burns, 73, a resident of Cleveland, TN slipped the bonds of earth and ascended to his heavenly home. He was surrounded by his family. Charles attended MDT Church of Riceville, He served 16 years in the U.S. Army (during the Vietnam War) and U. S. Army National Guard. He was a sharpshooter and received metals for National Defense Service. After retirement from the U. S. Postal Service, he drove for Sethra Transportation. Charles loved sports & working on the family genealogy, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. He loved to sing & study the bible. The word of God was his passion.
Born in Benton, he was preceded in death by his parents, Willie & Blossie Burns; sister, Dolly Maddox; brother, George Burns.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Anne Burns; children, Tynia Keith, Carol Sayne and Steve (Dawn) Burns; step children, Marty (Melinda) Grissom, of South Carolina, Rachel (Jason) McIlvene, of New Hampshire and Jeremy Grissom of North Carolina; 6 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 1 step-great grandchild; sisters, Jessie M. Shelton, of Cleveland, TN, Iva (Jerry) Cox, of Benton and Willie (Dennis) Moore, of Ooltewah; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM, Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Ocoee Church of God ,also known as River Hills Church of God, 813 US- 64, Ocoee, TN 37361 with Pastor Anthony Wynn & Pastor Michael “Mike” Whitmire officiating.
