Charles Lamb

Charles Glenn Lamb, 89, passed away on March 5, 2025. He was born to the late Franklin Lamb Sr. and Virginia Gates on March 24, 1935 in Chattahoochee, Florida.

Charles worked in many capacities during his successful career, but most recently worked as a Senior Design Engineer at Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee from December 2009-August 2011. From September 1987 to February 1990, he designed and performed stress analysis for PW500 engine brush air seal Test Rig Assembly at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. Charles worked at GE Aircraft Engines in Cincinnati, Ohio from December 1986 to September of 1997. Prior to this, he worked at Boeing Company in Oak Ridge, Tennessee from February 1982 to May 1986. Between January 1975 and February 1982, Charles was responsible for the assembly, disassembly, and repair of uranium enrichment gas centrifuges. During May 1969 to January 1975, he worked in the F-14, F-15, and F-16 Flight Test Engine Overhaul Depart. Shortly before this, Charles worked on the RL-10 Liquid Hydrogen/Oxygen Rocket Engines. He was assigned to the Saturn 1B and Saturn V Propulsion Vehicle Team, and to assemble, check out, and launch the S1VB Stage on the Apollo Program from October 1966 to January 1975. Charles served at Cape Kennedy March 1961 to October 1966.

Charles was very skilled and accomplished in the following areas: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Pro Engineer Wildfire 3.0, 5.0, and SolidWorks. He held Commercial Pilot and Multi Engine Rating. Charles fabricated two full scale Experimental Aircraft from scratch- Smith Miniplane (Biplane) N714C and a Shoestring Formula One Midget Racer N47CL.

He was in the U.S. Army from 1954 - 1956 and a part of Operation White Coat, which consisted of only Seventh Day Adventists young men. Charles loved flying, fishing, tennis, woodworking, and anything mechanical.

In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his brother, Franklin Lamb Jr.

Charles is survived by his sons, Michael and Douglas Lamb, daughter-in-law, Patricia Lamb, grandson, Mitchell (Alexa) Lamb, great-grandsons, Isaac and Henry Lamb, niece, Theresa Southard, nephews, Chris and Burl Lamb.

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2025 at 3:30 pm at Collegedale Community Church with Pastor Jerry Arnold officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm - 3:30 pm prior to the service. A graveside service is to follow at Collegedale Memorial Park.
