In Loving Memory of Charles Dewey Burger

Charles Dewey Burger, affectionately known as "Footsie," peacefully passed away on November 5, 2023. Charles lived a life filled with hard work, dedication, and love.

Charles served his country with pride as a Navy veteran and later went on to have a successful career as a lineman in the telecommunications industry, retiring after 34 years of loyal service at AT&T. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Charles was a pillar of his community.

For over 50 years, Charles faithfully taught Sunday School at Calhoun First Baptist, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives. His dedication to spreading the love and teachings of his faith will be remembered by all who had the privilege of learning from him.

Charles was a loving husband, married to his beloved wife Patsy for 61 years. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised their two children, Kelly McCooe (Gary) of Knoxville, TN, and Todd (Melanie) of Hartselle, AL. His grandchildren, Katie, Izzak, and Izaiah, brought immense joy and pride to his heart.

Charles will be greatly missed by his surviving family members, including his brother Carey Burger (Faye) of Cleveland, TN, sisters Carolyn Casteel (Larry) of Englewood, TN, and Cissy Evans (Michael) of Riceville, TN. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Lillian Matthews of Phoenixville, PA, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.

A graveside service to honor Charles's life will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Calhoun Cemetery, located adjacent to Calhoun 1st Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Calhoun Community Cemetery at 335 County Rd 20, Calhoun, TN 37309.

Charles Dewey Burger will forever be remembered for his unwavering faith, dedication to his family, and selfless service to others. May his soul find eternal peace and may his memory be a blessing to all who had the honor of knowing him.
