Cecil M. "Parkie" Parkinson of Cleveland, TN, passed away at his home on November 21, 2024, after a battle with cancer. Cecil was born in Riceville, TN (Eastanalee Valley) on June 27, 1943 and was the son of the late Edward and Mamie Parkinson.
Cecil graduated from McMinn County High School in 1961. He joined the Air Force in 1966 and was stationed at Francis E Warrant AFTB until his honorable discharge in 1970.
He worked on the dock at Bowater Paper Mill in Finishing and Shipping for 35 years, retiring in 2001.
He was a long-time member of Wesley Memorial Church where he was active in the Asbury Sunday School Class, Men's Bible Study, Men's Breakfast and Sack Pack. He was also on various committees at Wesley. Cecil enjoyed golfing and wooding in his spare time, but most importantly enjoyed spending time with his family.
Cecil is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sandy, one daughter, Dana, one son Tracy and his wife Nichole, granddaughter Abigail, and grandson Adkins.
The family expresses its gratitude to 2nd Floor for the staff at Bradley Medical Center and Oncology One, including Dr. Tran, Dee, and the entire staff of the treatment department.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Garden or the Chancel Ringers at Wesley Memorial Church of Cleveland, TN.
The family will hold a burial at Chattanooga National Cemetery on Friday, November 29, 2024, at 1:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at Wesley Memorial Church at 3405 Peerless Road, Cleveland, TN on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 3:00 PM in the church sanctuary. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary prior to the service from 1:00 PM until the 3:00 PM service time.
