Cathren Lawson

Cathren Duckett Lawson, 79, formerly of Cleveland, Tenn., passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, in Roanoke, Va.

She was born on October 17, 1944, in Englewood, Tenn., to the Rev. Carl Edward and Aleine Ervin Duckett and graduated from Bradley Central High School. She and her late husband, A.J. Lawson, owned and operated Lawson Carpet in Cleveland for over 30 years. Cathy devoted her life to her family, loved spending time with her daughters, Angie and Shelby, and especially enjoyed being a grandmother to Alex, Sara Catherine, Bailey, and Lainey. Being present and involved in her grandchildren's lives became the highlight of her own life and kept Cathren happy, beautiful, and vibrant well into her golden years. She will always be remembered for her kindness, her impeccable sense of taste and style, and her devotion to her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, The Rev. Carl Edward and Aleine Ervin Duckett; her infant sister, Euleine Duckett of Cleveland; her husband, Alexander "A.J." Lawson of Cleveland; and her daughter, Angelia Michelle Lawson Goodwill of Cleveland.

Cathren is survived by her daughter, Shelby Lawson Bingham and son-in-law, Jason Eric Bingham of Roanoke, Va.; son-in-law, David Wayne Goodwill (and Carmen) of Cleveland, Tenn.; her grandchildren, Alex (and Carley) Bingham of Hillsborough, N.C., Sara Catherine Bingham of Charlotte, N.C., Bailey Lawson Bingham Truman (and Jake) of Huntersville, N.C., and Margaret Elaine "Lainey" Goodwill of Memphis, Tenn.

The Lawson family wishes to thank the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice, as well as two very special caregivers, Ms. Janice Jones and Ms. Joyce Brown of Roanoke for the loving and compassionate care they so selflessly provided to Cathren.

Her Service will be held at Second Presbyterian Church of Roanoke on Monday, February 5, 2024, at 11 a.m. with Dr. George Anderson officiating. There will be a private burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Cleveland, Tennessee forthcoming.
