Carolyn A. Sanford, 81, of Athens passed into the Lord's hands peacefully, Thursday morning, November 21, 2019. She was born in Wauseon, Ohio on February 18.1938. She was the daughter of Otto and Mable Armbruster Leininger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Sanford, her brother, Morris Leininger and her great granddaughter, Kaylen Gilman.
Carolyn and her husband Paul retired to Tennessee many years ago. She loved nature, the mountains, the nearby waterfalls and had a special fondness for hummingbirds and butterflies. Carolyn always loved a good romance or mystery novel. Checking out
several books at a time was an every other week thing for her. When reading became difficult she turned to murder mystery TV. She was rarely fooled and figured out the mystery before it was unveiled to the audience almost every time.
Carolyn was loved by her husband, her children and her father. She is survied by her sister, Rose Webb, two daughters, Cindy Powers and husband, Norman of Helena, Ohio, her daughter Miriam Desautels and her husband, Steven of Athol, Massachusetts; three sons, Kirk Sanford and his wife Rhonda of Elizabeth, Colorado, Kevin Sanford and his wife Pamela of Maryville, Tennessee
and Paul Sanford of Strawberry Plains, Tennessee, 18 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
The family will be having a memorial service in the spring. Carolyn asked that in lieu of flowers you make a donation to your favorite
charity.
Companion Funeral Home of Athens, TN was in charge of her arrangements.
