Mrs. Carol Avery Hibbard, 89, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away August 27 at Fort Sanders Medical Center. Carol was born outside of Auburn, Alabama on March 29, 1935 to the late W.M. Avery and Blanche Green Avery. Carol later moved to Knoxville and graduated in 1953 from West High School. She then went on to graduate from The University of Tennessee, where she met future husband and Tennessee starting wingback ('54-'56) Bob Hibbard. After graduation, she taught third grade in the Jacksonville school system. Then they moved to Murray, Kentucky where she enjoyed golfing, Kentucky Lake, and many dear friends. In 1979, they moved back to Knoxville where she loved golfing with friends at Fox Den Country Club and always cheering for Tennessee Football, and the Men and Women's Basketball teams. She rarely missed any home University of Tennessee games.
Carol was preceded in death by beloved husband, Bob Hibbard, and sons Robbie and Mike Hibbard.
She is survived by her youngest son, Nick Hibbard, who shared, "My Mother was extremely beautiful, out- going, and had a wonderful personality. People famous or not would flock to her because of her wit and charm; whether she was in Aspen, Delray Beach, FL, or anywhere that she and dad were having fun."
Carol loved her children and their friends, especially the high school friends from Murray High. She also cherished the fraternity brothers of her sons, Mike and Nick, at the Sigma Chi Fraternity of Tennessee. I will deeply miss my wonderful Mom and will always love our families' cherished times.
Nick would like to thank the comforting staff at Fort Sanders Medical Center for their care and support. There will be a Celebration of Life announced in the near future.
You are encouraged to share a memory of Carol and/or your personal condolences with her family by visiting her memorial webpage and guestbook at www.companionfuenrals.com. Companion Funeral Home and the Cody family are honored to assist her family with these arrangements.
