Carl Plaugher

January 6, 1944 — September 1, 2023

Carl Jacob Plaugher wasn't a man of many words, but when he spoke everyone listened. Carl was a fixer, a doer. He never passed up an opportunity to work with his hands or to help someone who needed it whether they were a stranger or family.

Carl, 79, passed away on September 1, 2023, surrounded by his family. On this day Carl was reunited with the love of his life, his wife, Sonia Plaugher who passed away in 2016. Sonia was the light of Carl's life and since her passing he honored her by keeping her memory alive in the stories he would share with his family.

Carl and Sonia met at the young ages of 18 and 16, respectively. It was love at first sight and they were soon married and spent 54 years together. They are survived by their children, Sonia Michelle Plaugher, Evan Plaugher and April Plaugher, and Lisa Plaugher. And grandchildren Chris Plaugher, Cassandra Johnson, Cody Plaugher, Damon Loveday, Sabrina Parton, Chance Plaugher, Devon Loveday, Todd Jacob Steinke, and Abigayle Millwood.

Carl was the kind of man that inspired you to be a better person. He never gave up on anyone. Now he might have given a huff or a grunt here or there, but he never knew how to quit. Carl lived by the motto "you can't take it with you when you're gone". So he gave. He gave his time, love, and energy to those closest to him. And he was right, you can't take it with you. So he left it all here with those who knew him best. His tenacity, his determination, his courage and strength, and his unconditional love will live on through his family and his memory will continue on through the stories they will now tell about him for generations to come.

There will be no formal services at this time, you can however share a memory of Carl and/or your personal condolences with his family by visiting his memorial webpage and guestbook at www.companaionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral Home of Athens is honored to assist his family with these arrangements.
