Bob Miller, 80, moved to his heavenly home on Sunday, March 5, 2017. Bob was preceded in death by parents, Herbert and Alden Miller, and a son, Kenneth Miller. He is survived by a his loving wife of 56 years, Ann Clifton Miller, son Glenn (Millanie) Miller of Chapel Hill, Tennessee, grandson Zachary (Kelli) Miller, granddaughters Erica (James) Davis and Macie Miller, six great grandchildren, and nephew Kevin Miller.
Bob, known as “Bob the Builder” or “Mr. Fixit” retired after 30 years at DuPont. He also served in the Army National Guard for nine years and was a deacon emeritus at Ridgedale Baptist Church. Before retirement Bob supplemented the family income by using his woodworking skills to build decks, home additions, and various woodcraft projects. He was nicknamed “Mr. Fix-It” until the cartoon “Bob the Builder” became popular. After retirement Bob also used this same ability by joining various mission projects to help repair, build or rebuild after disasters. These trips took him to Portsmouth, Virginia; Alaska; New Orleans; Gulfport and several times to a children’s camp in Appalachia. He loved working at Ridgedale helping build various stage sets, repairs at the Meadows houses, many commmunity projects, and especially working with other volunteers. One of his favorite activities was when Ridgedale sponsored the Barbara Pedigo Habit House for Humanity. Bob continued his woodworking at home with a well-equipped workshop. Through the years he made many improvements to the family homes. Multiple health issues later (mainly Alzheimers’) prevented his involvement in the work he loved dearly, but he had sweet memories of his contribution to God’s work. To Bob this was his way of “Loving God, Loving Others.”
A celebration of life service is planned for Saturday, March 11th, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Ridgedale Baptist Church located at 1831 Hickory Valley Road in Chattanooga, TN. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the 1:00 PM service time.
