Bobbie Queen

April 7, 1933 — September 20, 2023

Bobbie Mary Ellen Renfro Callahan Queen, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, while at home surrounded by her family in Calhoun, TN. She was born in Fayetteville, TN on April 7, 1933, to Whitney Dance Renfro and Mary Connie Sawyer. She had bright blue eyes, an infectious laugh, loving heart, and radiant smile. She was of the Baptist Faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Betty Jo Renfro Welborn, first husband, Ernest "Big Jack" Melvin Callahan Sr.; second husband, William Everett Queen; daughter, Mary Florence; and grandsons, Jerry Wayne Smith Jr., and Everett Dance Catlett.

Survivors include her children, Deborah Mantooth (Ben), Ernest Callahan Jr., Brenda Callahan-Quinton (Don), Cathleen Callahan, Michael Callahan (Laura Maggi), and daughter, Tana Howe-Callahan; grandchildren, Coela Blackstock (Jamie) Loomis Smith III (Angie), Sherry Dauwalter, Shain Smith (James McCollum), Jennifer Shupe (Gabe), Penny Young (Michael), Denny Catlett (Maranda), Joshua Catlett (Brandy), William McGrinn (Catherine), Ernest Callahan III (Allison), Michael J. Callahan, John Callahan, Maggie Callahan, and special grandson, John M. Griffin (Paige); twenty seven great grandchildren, twelve great great grandchildren; sister, Sarah Renfro White Stemen; and brother, Jimmie Renfro (Samantha).

Bobbie's greatest enjoyment was spending time with family and friends. She had a sweet personality, and never knew a stranger. She was a selfless and caring person. She loved to square dance, attend country music concerts, and to help others when they were in need. She was a talented seamstress who could look at a readymade garment and make her own pattern from newspapers. She repurposed her old dresses and Jack's work shirts into outfits for her children. She crocheted, made macrame, made smocked pillows and dresses, and enjoyed trying new recipes. Every Halloween she made unique costumes for her children and later for some of her grandchildren.

During her later years her favorite activities were sitting on her front porch watching the hummingbirds and listening to her wind chimes. Large family gatherings were important to her. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren talk and play.
