Billy Rowland

Billy Ray Curtis Rowland, a beloved member of the Benton community, passed away on January 1, 2024, at the age of 62. Born on April 16, 1961, in Athens, TN, Billy was the son of the late Phyllis Faudine and James Sherman Rowland. He is preceded in death by a loving brother Mickey Rowland and loving sister Debbie Rowland Swallows.

Billy's passion for education led him on a remarkable journey as a teacher. After graduating from McMinn Central High School, he furthered his education by attending Cleveland State Community College and Tennessee Tech University, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree. For over two decades, Billy dedicated his time and energy as a teacher, making a lasting impact on countless students. He spent the majority of his career at Chilhowee Middle School, fostering a love for learning within his students.

Beyond his profession, Billy devoted himself to serving his community. He actively participated in his church, working on various ministry projects to spread kindness and help those in need. In his leisure time, Billy enjoyed watching college football and passionately cheered for the Buffalo Bills as a loyal fan. He cherished moments spent with his family and had a deep affection for his beloved dogs.

Billy is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Tammy Rowland, who stood by his side through thick and thin. He also leaves behind his brother, Jeff Rowland, and his wife Susie, his cherished son Zach Rowland, and his "adopted son" James Cronan and Special niece Deborah Swallows Burgess. Billy's family, including nieces, nephews, and extended family members, will dearly miss him.

To honor the life and memory of Billy Rowland, a celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, January 4th, at 7pm at Benton Station Baptist Church. Prior to the service, friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects and share their memories of Billy from 5pm until 7pm. Pastor Lake Walker will officiate the memorial service, providing solace and support during this difficult time.

Following the celebration of life service, Billy will be laid to rest at Benton Station Baptist Church Cemetery on Friday, January 5th, at 10am with Jim Parker, James Cronan, Larry Smith, Steve Melton, Greg Swallows, Lynn Burgess serving as pallbearers. Jeff Rowland and Zach Rowland will serve as honorary pallbearers. Friends and family are welcome to attend the graveside service to say their final goodbyes and find closure.
