Obituary
Billy Joe Osment, 84, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, TN passed away on Monday January 14th. He was born on October 11, 1928 to the late Lester and Ruby Osment. Billy was a member at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. He was employed by Cleveland Express from 1953-1999, serving as President and co-owner of the company from 1979-1999. He was a lifelong member at Waterville Golf Course where he was known as “OZ.” He served on the board of control at the golf course and participated in overseeing much of the building of the new clubhouse. He was also a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. Billy was an avid UT football fan and season ticket holder. He built custom aquariums and produced food for tropical fish that supplied many pet stores in the area. Among all of these, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed by family and friends.
In addition to his mother and father, Billy is preceded in death by two brothers: Raymond Osment and L.B. Osment Jr., and four sisters: Geneva Ogle, Elizabeth Turner, Elnora Goins, and Geraldean Hughes. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 60 years, Laurie “Sweet” Osment, three daughters: Brenda Carson (Danny), Connie Dalton (Mike), and Barbara Smith (Roy), brother Harry Osment (Kate), five grandchildren: Matt Carson (Angie), Julie Turner (Bryan), Billy Smith (fiance Kerry), Ellen Smith, and Daniel Smith, two great-granddaughters: Laurie Carson and Stella Turner.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday January 16th from 1:00pm-3:00pm at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church located at 3405 Peerless Road NW, Cleveland, TN 37312. The funeral service will be on Wednesday at 3:00pm at the church. Interment will follow the service at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Matt Carson, Billy Smith, Daniel Smith, and Bryan Turner will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers make donations to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Billy’s name.
