Betty Ellen Lovelace, 95, a former resident of Cleveland passed away on October 14, 2024, and was welcomed into the gates of Heaven by the One she gave her life to at a very young age. Jesus was her strong fortress throughout her life.
Born on December 21, 1928 in Calvin, Oklahoma, Betty was the daughter of the late Charles and Marie McCarty. Also preceding her in death was the love of her life, Rev. O.D. Lovelace, a daughter Holly Farmer, son-in-law Curtis Humphries and granddaughter Letisha Liese.
She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Humphries Renusch (Rodney) of Athens, GA, son Chuck Lovelace (Debbie) of Virginia Beach, VA, sister Helen Sue Bender of Safford, AZ; grandsons Jake Lovelace (Kelli) of Virginia Beach, VA, Brandon Humphries of Lenoir City, TN, Chris Farmer and Tyler Farmer both from Cleveland, TN; granddaughters Amy Humphries of Ringgold, GA, Abbi Lovelace Williams (Brad) of Garner, NC, Kimber Kim (Geon Hiw) of Athens, GA, and Danielle Farmer of Cleveland, TN. She had ten great-grandchildren and five great- great- grandchildren.
While Betty was serving as a pastor's wife, she also attended Eastern Michigan University and Oakland University where she earned a Master of Arts degree. Her career as a teacher spanned 17 years, many of which she taught home economics. She loved to get her hands dirty in flower beds all around her home. Her old CB handle was "Flower Lady." She didn't really like to travel but she logged a lot of miles with her family and friends so she could share in their adventures.
She was devoted to her family and made sure her children and grandchildren had plenty to eat when they came for a visit. More importantly, she was a Godly example of His love and goodness to everyone she met.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 11:00 am at Hopewell Church of God with Dr. Larry Pemberton officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 am - 11:00 am.
Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with grandsons and great-grandsons serving as pallbearers.
You are invited to share a personal memory of Betty or your condolences with her family at her online memorial located at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral Home of Cleveland and the Cody family are honored to assist the family with these arrangements.
