Betty Helen Hathcock Nicholson

Betty Helen Hathcock Nicholson died in her home on January 7, 2022 in Cleveland, TN at the age of 90 years old. She is survived by her daughter Debbie Nicholson Millard, 8 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents John Adolphus Hathcock and Wilmetta Austin Hathcock and sister Judy Hathcock Jordan, all of China Grove, NC, her Husband Fred Cody Nicholson and her daughter Melanie Nicholson Hindman both of Cleveland, TN, her son Douglas Clay Nicholson of Fredericksburg, TX, her granddaughter Amber Nicholson and grandson Stevie Nicholson.
Betty was born on October 2, 1931, in Stanley County, NC to John Adolphus and Wilmetta Hathcock. When she was 19 years old, she moved to Washington DC. She worked as a secretary for the FBI, even once sharing an elevator with J. Edgar Hoover. After moving back to China Grove, NC she worked for 7 years as the secretary of Dr Tom Stanback of Stanback Headache Powders. Then she became a dedicated stay-at-home Mother to 3 children.
She was a loving and selfless wife and Mother. She was always involved volunteering in her church and community. In the 1980s she once received recognition from TN Governor Lamar Alexander for her volunteer efforts of registering people to vote. After her children were grown, she went to school to become a tax preparer. She worked at Bradley Bookkeeping until she retired at 85 years old. She was an active and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
A Memorial Service for Betty and Fred Cody Nicholson (who passed away in May of 2020) will be held at 2p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2022 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
The family will receive friends from 5p.m. until 7p.m on Friday, January 14, 2022 at the Cleveland Chapel of Companion Funeral Home located at 2415 Georgetown Road NW in Cleveland.
