Betty Barger Bown, 94, died at a local healthcare facility. She currently resided in Chattanooga, TN and was formerly from Jasper, TN. She was a long-time member of the Jasper Cumberland Presbyterian Church and transferred to First Cumberland Presbyterian Church when she relocated to Chattanooga, TN.
She worked for many years at various power companies and physicians’ offices. She was also a member of the Chattanooga Camping Club, Jasper Home Demonstration Club, and Jasper Women’s Club. She was a past volunteer for the Make-A-Wish foundation and Hospice of Chattanooga. She was always willing and available to help her sick family and friends. She was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who was very much loved by all that knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Arlie and Grace Barger, husband Thomas E. Brown and sisters Mary Kelly, Virginia Alder and Frances Phillips and grandson Jeff Sewell.
Survivors include two daughters, Sherian Summers and Lynn Bowman, Chattanooga, TN, two sons, Steve (Cynthia Darlene), Oceanside, CA, Gregg (Connie), Signal Mountain, TN, grandchildren, Sheridon (Dave) Tompkins, Chattanooga, Kyle (Ashlee) Brown, Chattanooga, Rachel Brown, Lexington, KY, Allason (James) Tipton, Dayton, TN and Brittany Brown, CA; seven great grand children and several nieces and nephews.
She gifted her body to UT-Memphis Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology. Her favorite verse was Revelations 21:4 - “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
