Betty Ann Collins

Betty Ann Collins, 77, of Athens, TN passed away on March 7, 2016. She was born on April 18, 1938 to James and Alma Price. Betty was a lifelong resident of this area and a member of Boyd Memorial First Church of God. She was an avid reader, loved cooking shows and soap operas, and also enjoyed bowling earlier in her life. Above all things, however, Betty loved her family and spending time with them, especially her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband James “Tooter” Collins and mother Alma Price as well as sister in law Ina Mae Gibson.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory one son James L. Collins III (Betty Jean Collins); two daughters: Lisa Nelson (Terry) and Linda Freeman; father James Price; brothers Thomas Sparks (Lavenia) and James Price (Jewell); grandchildren: Tanner Collins, T.J. Nelson (Shauna), Dustin Nelson, Amanda Nelson (Andrew Mendenhall), Joshua Gary (Carrie Smith), and Annie Freeman; great grandchildren Carson Gary and Levi Gary; brother in laws: Paul Collins (Belinda), Gene Collins (Sue), William “Buddy” Collins; sisters in law: Frances Brown (James), Beth Mooneyham (Earl), Clara Stinnett, and Murriel Seaborn. In addition to these she leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday March 10, 2016 at Boyd Memorial First Church of God located at 1130 N. Congress Parkway, Athens, TN 37303 with Jimmy Price and Frank Kincannon officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday March 9, 2016 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. Interment will be held at Cedar Grove Cemetery following the service with T.J. Nelson, Dustin Nelson, Joshua Gary, Tanner Collins, Steve Partain, Jeff Stinnett, and Carson Gary serving as pallbearers.
