Benny Joe Wooden, known fondly as Benny, passed away in peace on July 30, 2023, in Cleveland, TN. Born in Chattanooga, TN on March 5, 1939, to J.P. and Mazie Wooden, his zest for life and unwavering spirit are remembered by many.
Benny's professional life was rooted in insurance sales, demonstrating his commitment to help others secure their futures. Beyond his professional endeavors, he had a passion for golf, Benny was also very adventurous and loved to travel. Known for his generosity, he often shared his garden's bounty with neighbors, even mowing their lawns when needed.
Remembered as generous, funny, and loving, Benny had a unique charm that resonated with all who knew him. His love for his family was evident, his adoration for his daughter Renee being the light of his life. Unfortunately, he was preceded in death by Renee, his three previous wives, and his last wife Catherine Haney Parks Wooden.
Benny is survived by his son, Bruce Wooden; his grandchildren, Heather Cross (Rod), Christopher Duckworth (Haven), and Brianna Wooden; and his great-grandchildren, Gabby, Mariah, Zachary, Edward, and McKinze. Benny's memory will forever reside in the hearts of his loved ones, and his legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will undoubtedly shape their lives for years to come. He met Norma Hindman in 2013 and it “became the best thing for him, Amen.”
Benny’s family will receive friends from 12pm until 2pm on Thursday August 3rd at Companion Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life Service to be held at 2pm. He will be laid to rest following the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
