Barbara Jean Smith

Barbara Jean Smith, 86, of Athens, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2022, after an extended illness. She was born on January 26, 1936, in Knoxville, Tennessee to the late Robert and Elizabeth Mutter. Barbara was a longtime resident of Athens, and attended Allen Memorial Methodist Church.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles S. Smith.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her two sons, Rodney Steven Smith, and Paul Anthony Smith both of Athens; her extended family, Evelyn Watts, Sherry Barr, Vicky Rudd, Ryan Barr, Phillip Barr, and Hannah Hastings; a host of friends including, Marge Shirk, Wanda Price, Francis Grimes, Susan Tutor, John and Marketia Jenkins, Mark, Michael, and Catherine.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 29, 2022, at 2:00pm at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Athens, Tennessee with Dr. John M. Jenkins officiating.
