Aubrie Wayne Lackie, 85, of Cleveland, TN, heard, "Well done, thy good and faithful servant!" as he entered into the joy of the Lord on the afternoon of May 13, 2024.
Our "gentle giant" towering at 6' 8" was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Ila Mae Lackie, and sister, Helen (Dan) Miller. Aubrie is survived and greatly missed by his wife, Patty (nee Blankenship) of nearly 62 years, and their two sons, Todd (Paula) and Richard; one grandson, Caleb (Katie) and two great grandchildren, Lily Ann Lackie and Caleb Douglas Lackie Jr.
Born in Bragg City, MO, on May 13, 1939, he graduated from Arkansas State University with a B.S. in Education and spent six years coaching football, basketball, baseball and track in both Arkansas and Missouri. He considered himself "a gypsy" having moved his wife and sons several times, which explained his philosophy "to take the better opportunity, experience new areas and new challenges" as he thought "it helped him and his family grow."
Throughout his lifetime he was a Pfizer pharmaceutical representative, teacher, nursing home administrator, college administrator, regional administrator for the Illinois Foundation for Medical Care, and a local business owner of the original Cleveland Sonic Drive-In for 18 years.
Post retirement from the Sonic he remained active in the local community he loved so much. Aubrie joined the Bradley- Cleveland Senior Activity Center where he joyfully volunteered his services and expertise for many years; furthermore, he was honored to proudly serve on the Southeast Tennessee Veterans Home Council.
In addition to being a lifelong learner, Aubrie enjoyed talking about old cars, fishing, watching TV (especially westerns, horse and car racing, and any kind of sports game), listening to Southern Gospel music, and eating good food - particularly with family and friends.
He and his wife faithfully served as members at Cleveland Christian Church for many years where he shared his love of scripture as a Sunday School teacher. He poured countless hours each week into preparing his lessons and communion meditations.
His contagious smile and big voice could be seen and heard calling your name as soon as he saw you enter a room, which was fairly easy for such a tall man. His big hugs and big heart made everyone feel welcome and wanted. He was quick to share his love for his family and his love of Christ. His influence on many employees, family and friends will continue to live on. We find comfort in knowing this is not goodbye, but see you later.
A Celebration of Life service at Bradley-Cleveland Senior Activity Center located at 230 Urbane Road Cleveland, TN 37312 is open to all family and friends who would like to come share memories or condolences. The service will be Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 3:00 pm. The family will be receiving friends from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Bradley- Cleveland Senior Activity Center in his name would be appreciated.
You are invited to share a personal memory of Aubrie or your condolences with his family at his online memorial located at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral Home of Cleveland and the Cody family are honored to assist the family with these arrangements.
