Arvel James Thomasson, 84, passed away on April 17, 2025. He was born to the late Ollie and Mildred Thomasson on July 13th, 1940 in Paducah, Kentucky.
Arvel worked as a welder at McKee Foods for many years until his retirement. He then went on to serve as an Associate Pastor at Beacon Baptist Church. Arvel was a substitute teacher at Walker Valley High School for many years, and many of the students lovingly referred to him as "Pepaw." Arvel loved to golf, fish, and garden. Arvel loved the Lord first but he also loved his family big! He loved spending time with them at the ball field, competitions, or just playing in the yard. In his spare time, Arvel enjoyed watching University of Alabama Football. He loved all things Alabama. Roll Tide!

Arvel is survived by his wife, Judith Thomasson, children, Terry (Jenny) Thomasson, Jerry Thomasson, Vickie (Douglas) Towne, grandchildren, Dustin (Tami) Lynn, Cara (Jeff) Neill, Robert (Haley) Towne, Kimberlee (Jordy) Lawson, Terri Thomasson, Andrew (Laura) Towne, Katherine (Braeden) Moses, and 13 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, April 21st, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Companion Funeral Home of Cleveland- The Ridge Chapel, with Pastor Floyd Boggess officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 11:00 am - 2:00pm prior to the service. A graveside service is to follow at Hiwassee Memorial Gardens.
