Artis J.R. Guthrie, 72, a resident of Cleveland died on Saturday October 8, 2011 in a Chattanooga health care facility. He was born in Sallisaw, OK to the late Wesley Roosevelt Guthrie and Ruby Pauline Winkler Guthrie. Art was of the Baptist faith and had served in the United States Air Force. He lived in Bakersfield, CA most of his life until moving to Cleveland 15 years ago.
Art was an avid reader and collector, a caring, thoughtful, and loving person who enjoyed doing things for and giving to others. He was dearly loved and be will be truly missed by his entire family.
Art is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Joyce E. Guthrie, one daughter Beverly Patton and her husband Lynn of Susanville, CA, one step son Phillip Mutz and his wife Veroneca of Bakersfield, CA. Art is also survived by two sisters Doris Maxwell, and Janice Kazy and husband Cliff, five grandchildren and one great grandchild. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
