Anthony C. Barnes Jr.

Anthony C. Barnes Jr., 54, a resident of Athens, TN passed away on Sunday morning, September 11, 2022 in a Chattanooga hospital. He was born in Aniston, AL on May 29, 1968. Anthony was a longtime member of Ascension Life Church in Athens. He was a social worker for many years locally and helped many people. Anthony was a huge Van Halen and FSU fan and enjoyed collecting team memorabilia, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Anthony is preceded in death by his father Anthony C. Barnes Sr., his little brother Aaron Christopher Barnes, his grandparents Bufford & Vessie Lee Barnes, uncle Tommy Lamar Griffin and his beloved uncle Dennis Barnes.

Anthony leaves behind to cherish his memory his mother Angela Johnson Barnes, one sister Amy Barnes Elkins and her husband Michael, two nieces Kristi Elkins and Sierria Barnes, two nephews Matthew Elkins and Nicholas Elkins and his wife Madison, numerous other extended family members and host of special friends.

A memorial service is planned for Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 6:00 PM at the Ascension Life Church located at 935 Rocky Mount Road in Athens, TN with the Reverend Darrell Simbeck officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 PM until the 6:00 PM service time at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to either CASA Corridor of East TN or McMinn County Humane Society in Anthony’s memory because of his love of children and animals.
