Alicia Beth Nerren Sharp

August 29, 1946 — September 29, 2017

Alicia Beth Nerren Sharp was born on August 29, 1946 in Angelina County, Texas. She was the second child born to George Nolen Nerren, Sr. and Keith Elizabeth Skipper Nerren. Her father was a papermaker who moved their family to Cleveland, Tennessee in 1954 when he was offered a job at Bowater Paper Mill. She also lived in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, then moved to Marshall, Texas, Lufkin, Texas, Riverside, Texas, and most recently, she lived in Willis, Texas. Alicia passed away on the evening of September 29th as the result of an automobile accident in Davie County, North Carolina while traveling with her sister and a friend.
A talented seamstress, Alicia even crafted her own outfits to illustrate her talent when she won runner-up in the Junior Miss Pageant of 1963. She played guard for the Bradley Bearettes alongside her older sister, Sally Nell Nerren Phillips. Alicia was a member of the state championship Bearettes and set the record for most rebounds in a state tournament when they played six on six basketball. Her record remains intact today. She was named an All-State player in 1964. Alicia graduated from Bradley High School in May of 1964.
On November 14, 1964 she married Frederick Allen Sharp of Cleveland, Tennessee at the Stuart Park Baptist Church. A career homemaker whose life’s work was raising her four daughters, Alicia adored her children and many grandchildren. Alicia was highly competitive, an excellent card player who loved coffee, candles and soft pillows. Faith was an integral part of her upbringing and life. Alicia was an active member of Cypress Creek Christian Church in Spring, Texas.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Frederick Allen Sharp, formerly of Cleveland, Tennessee who now resides in Willis, Texas; children: Catherine Elizabeth Sharp and her husband, Robert Petrosky of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; Stephanie Dianne Sharp Hickman and husband, Timothy Hickman of The Woodlands, Texas; Jennifer Lee Sharp Saunders and husband, John Saunders of Corpus Christi, Texas; and Laura Beth Sharp Frame and husband, Michael Frame of Austin, Texas. Surviving grandchildren include, Elizabeth Hope Bruton Gerlach and husband, Chris Gerlach; Ryan Christopher Rhodes; Stephen Christopher Sharp; Noah Daniel Rhodes, Rebekah Kate Petrosky; Jonah Timothy Hickman; Hannah Alicia Hickman; Molly Leah Rhodes; Nolen Frederick Petrosky; Callaghan Jax Petrosky; and Faith Alexandra Saunders; great grandchild, Keith William Olena; Step-grandchildren: Terry Petrosky; Jonah Saunders; and Emily Saunders. Her surviving siblings include, George Nolen Nerren, Jr. and his wife, Suzanne Nerren; and Deborah Kay Nerren Holland and her husband, Bill Holland; sisters-in-law: Doris Sharp Barger and her husband Carl Barger; and Debbie Humberd Nerren. Also, she was survived by fifteen nieces and nephews along with many additional family members who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her mother, Keith Elizabeth Skipper Nerren; her father, George Nolen Nerren, Sr.; her sister, Sally Nell Nerren Phillips; and her baby brother, Daniel Keith Nerren.
Visiting hours at the Companion Funeral Home in Cleveland, Tennessee 2417 Georgetown Rd NW are on Saturday, October 7th from 1:00 to 3:00 PM with the service immediately following. A memorial service will be held at Cypress Creek Christian Church on 6823 Cypresswood Dr. in Spring, Texas on Sunday, October 15th starting at 2:30 PM.
Pallbearers will include sons-in-law, Robert Petrosky, Timothy Hickman, John Saunders, and Michael Frame; and grandsons, Stephen Sharp, Jonah Hickman, Nolen Petrosky, and Callaghan Petrosky.
Memorial donations may be made to either the JJ Watt Foundation or Cypress Christian Creek Church benefiting Hurricane Harvey relief and repair efforts.
