Obituary

Alice Pauline Thomas McPhail, 84, a longtime resident of the Prospect community in Cleveland, TN went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday night, July 5th, 2014 from a local hospital following a brief illness. Pauline was born in Sweetwater, TN on August 19th, 1929 a daughter of the late Luke and Ella Thomas. She joined Philippi Baptist Church in 1959 and has been a faithful member since that time. Pauline during her life served the church as a Sunday School Teacher, worked in VBS and always cooked for any church function that was going on. She worked for a short time at Charleston Hosiery Company along with her late husband Kenneth, but her most enduring quality was the way in which she cared for and loved her family. Pauline was famous for homemade biscuits and chocolate gravy.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth McPhail, one daughter Judith Ann McPhail, one grandson Wallace Gregory Harden, three brothers Sam Thomas, Lester Thomas and Clyde Thomas and three sisters June Thomas, May Inman and Anna Rhea Morrison.

Pauline leaves behind to cherish her memory three children Linda Murray and husband Jerry, Sharon Harden and husband Lake and Dwaine McPhail, grandchildren Angie Kesley, Teresa Shoemaker (David), Aleta Prather (Scott), Amanda Guy (Shane), LaRonda Sneed (Nathan), Sheri McPhail, Marion McPhail, Paula Deal (Danny), great grandchildren Todd Prather, Kayla Prather, Manon Guy, Cooper Guy, Holland Guy, Charlie Sneed, Luke Sneed, Morgan Corum, Hayley Reed (Tyler), Hannah Deal, one sister Mildred McGinnis in Lenior City, TN, one brother Roy Thomas of Sweetwater, TN, one sister-in-law Sue Thomas of Maryville, TN, numerous other extended family members, church family and a host of special friends.

A celebration of her life is planned for Tuesday night, July 8th, 2014 at 8:00 PM at the Philippi Baptist Church located at 2484 Harrison Pike with the Dr. Sammy Hooker officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday night from 5:00 PM until the 8:00 PM service time.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Philippi Baptist Church Building Fund in Pauline’s memory.

The graveside and committal service will take place on Wednesday morning, July 9th, 2014 at 10:00 AM in the Earls Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers.
