Alice J Hockman

Alice J. Hockman, 84, of Athens, Tennessee went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, September 28, 2022. Alice was born on September 10, 1938 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Reverend William and Emma Johnson.

Alice and Larry moved their family of six to Athens in 1970 to open Hockman Spa and Pool Supply. The pool store was originally in the old Goodfriend’s Store located in the downtown square. Owning the only pool supply business in the area Alice and Larry provided pool chemicals to the community, and built many pools in the surrounding area for over 55 years.

Along with her parents Alice was preceded in death by her husband R. Larry Hockman; son, Brent L. Hockman; great granddaughter, Makayla; and her son-in-law, Chuck Skipper.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her sister, Martha Walker of Tucson, Arizona; her four children, Blake (Marie) Hockman of Athens, Bonnie (David) Cagle of Athens, Jane Skipper of Athens, and Jill (Kyle) Rider of Knoxville; her grandchildren, Heidi, Heather, Whitney, Madyson, Brandi, Amanda, Matthew, and Brett; great grandchildren, Karlee, Kaylee, Ander, Silas, Blake, Chevy, Larry, Cole, Briley, Macy, Taylor, and Noelle; along with a host of extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 29, 2022 at 5:00 pm at the Hockman Home located at 118 County Road 654- Athens, TN 37303. There will be a hayride and bonfire in memory of Alice. The family ask that anyone wishing to attend would bring their own chair.
