Adah Dixon

Adah Bess Howard Dixon, 93, of Cleveland went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, January 26th, 2024. She was born in Decatur and lived in Cleveland for over 80 years. She was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church for many years and was currently a member of Big Springs Baptist. She worked in retail and retired from S&S Kresge in the 1980s.

Adah enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports and was a fan of the Golden State Warriors and Lady Vols. She loved shopping, going on long car rides with her husband, and feeding the birds at Daytona Beach. She also loved all things sweet, especially chocolate. She was a beautiful, precious soul, and everyone who knew her loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Wayne A. Dixon; her children, Randall Dixon and Loretta Jones; her father and mother, John Samuel and Mary Ann Howard; her siblings, Lucy, John, Gertrude, Mary, and Claude; and her son-in-law, Rick Shourd.

She is survived by her children, Sandra Shourd and Alan Dixon (Kelley); her son-in-law, Alan Jones; her grandchildren, Lisa Jane McNelly (Ivan), Gary Dixon (Angelia), David Dixon (Patricia), Jill Jones, Justin Jones, Matt Shourd, Brandon Shourd, Kristi Dixon, Whitney Dixon, and Hunter Jones; great-grandchildren, Ethan McNelly, Adam Dixon, Bradley Dixon, Derrick Dixon, Tristan Jones, and Hayley Reed; and special caregiver, Sandra Dixon.

The family will receive friends at Companion Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00-8:00. A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, February 1st at 11:00 at Lebanon Baptist Church with Pastor Adam Harden officiating. A graveside service will follow at Lebanon Baptist Cemetery. Gary Dixon, Ivan McNelly, Justin Jones, Brandon Shourd, Tristan Jones, and Corey Lovelace will serve as pallbearers. David Dixon will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
