Austin L. McGee (Pee Wee / A.L.), 80, of Ooltewah, TN, passed away on September 1, 2021 at home after several years of battling cancer.
A.L. was born on May 12, 1941 and was the son of the late Austin L. McGee and Mable Thomas McGee. He is survived by his spouse of 60 years, Ruby Sandra Smith McGee and two sons, Ty L. McGee and wife Lori and Max A. McGee, both of Ooltewah, TN. He was also blessed with 5 grandchildren, Kylie McGee, Bryce McGee, Braden McGee, Jayden McGee and Alexia Freeman whom he loved spending time with. A.L. has one surviving sibling, Gene McGee, and wife Jeannie and two deceased sisters, Alice Webb and late husband Bill and Austina Richey and late husband Joe. A.L. leaves behind many dear friends, nephews, nieces, cousins and other loved ones.
A.L. was a member of Maple Gove Baptist Church. He was a Christian and loved the Lord.
In his younger years A.L. was one of the top fastball softball pitchers in the City of Chattanooga and played many years for Candler Methodist in the church city league winning numerous games at Warner Park.
A.L. retired as a City of Chattanooga police officer in 1991 after 25 years of service. He then went on to work another 8 years for Hamilton County. After retiring A.L. had plenty of time to enjoy more of his favorite pastimes. Those being camping and watching westerns. He and Ruby Sandra loved camping with close friends, Dewey and Pat Gass and many close friends from North Carolina.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 6, 2021 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Maple Grove Baptist Church in Harrison, TN. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. with an hour of visitation prior to that. The service will also be held at Maple Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Ronnie Dotson and Associate Pastor Andy Bell officiating. He will be laid to rest at Harrison Cemetery. Paul Bearers will be: Jimmy Webb, Rex Richey, Gene McGee, Bobby Richey Jr., Leslie Williams, Billy Horton and Dewey Gass.
The family wishes to especially thank Suzy Freeman for her incredible support and help during A.L.’s last weeks.
