Willard Herman Melton

Willard Herman Melton, 96, of Cleveland, TN passed away on June 27, 2021. Herman was a lifelong resident of this area born on June 23, 1925 to the late Hershel and Artie Melton. He was employed by Volunteer Electric for 45 years, with the latter 25 years of his employment serving as the district manager for this area. “Lightning,” as he was known by many of his colleagues, was responsible for bringing power into the homes of many people for the first time in the 1940s-50s. He knew everyone and was loved by many. Herman loved the Lord and was the oldest member of Candies Creek Baptist Church. Herman also enjoyed camping and hunting. Above all, he loved his family and spending time with them.

In addition to his mother and father, he is preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Hooper Melton; sister Vorus Ingle, and brothers Carl Melton and Jack Melton.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his son Tom Melton (Cathy); daughter Linda Owens (Lee), grandchildren: Brian Melton (Jamie) and their daughter Hannah; Robin Schichtel (Adrianne) and their children Zane, Levi, and Robin; Barratt Schichtel (Valerie) and their daughter Lola. In addition to these, Herman leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.

A celebration of Herman’s life will be held at 12pm on Friday July 2, 2021 at Candies Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Stan Gibson and Pastor Erbin Bumgardner officiating. His family will receive friends from 10am until the 12pm service. He will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens following the service. Dennis Melton, Steve Melton, Barratt Schichtel, Dale Hooper, Herb Hooper, and Daniel Kowalik will be serving as pallbearers.
