Willa Jean O'Quinn, 85, of Hixson, Tennessee, passed away on March 25, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born to parents Elzie and Lois Johnson on October 21, 1937 in Sylvania, Alabama.

Graduating from Sylvania High School, Jean moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee and married the love of her life, James “Jim” O’Quinn. She would live the majority of her life in Chattanooga, raising two wonderful sons and retiring from DuPont as a supervisor.

After retiring, Jean spent much of her time painting, crafting, and making jewelry. She also loved being with her twin granddaughters, and in later years, three great grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her father and mother Elzie and Lois Johnson.


Jean is survived by her husband of 64 years, James “Jim” O’Quinn, sons, James Michael O’Quinn (Karen), Chattanooga, TN, Gregory Wayne O’Quinn (Jenni), Brandon, MS, granddaughters, Brittany Hicks (Jordan), Brooke Mitchell (Jesse), and great-grandchildren Levi, Hadley, and Everett. Additional survivors include sister Louise Ledford, aunt Mary Heard, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.


A graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Chattanooga National Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Tim Williams. A reception will follow at the family home in Hixson.

The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Chattanooga, especially Nurse Ashley and CNA’s LaShonda and Rebecca for all of their support and care. Additional thanks to Debbie Petty, Celeste, Rita, Jo, Rimma, and Allison for their love, help, and support they have offered in caring for a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.
