Wayne Byerly

December 18, 1952 — January 9, 2022

Wayne Byerly was born on December 18, 1952 in Chattanooga,
Tennessee. Surrounded by his family in the Chattanooga home of
his dear sister, Susan West, he passed from this world into the
loving arms of Christ our Savior on January 9, 2022.

Wayne grew up in Jacksonville, FL where he graduated from Englewood High School. He
served in the United States Air Force in Tucson, AZ, his favorite location of residence due to his
love of the desert. He moved to Biloxi, MS to live closer to his mother where he studied
Computer Science and became a Software Engineer. After working and living in Philadelphia,
PA for a few years, he returned to his home state of Tennessee and eventually lived out his
remaining years at his father’s farm, Rest and Be Thankful, in Pikeville.

Wayne was a very good cook. He also loved music and could be found singing in the kitchen
while he prepared meals. He was very talented at woodwork, including walking sticks, cutting

boards, artistic wood burning, and gourd art. However, Wayne’s favorite hobbies were his
cactus and succulents, for which he had an exceptional green thumb, and his love of reading.
Wayne was an intelligent and artistic man with a great sense of humor. He never met a stranger
and loved to engage people everywhere he went. He was generous to a fault and regularly gave
away his cactus and creations to everyone in his path. He had a sense of adventure; he loved to
ride his motorcycle and would tell you that skydiving was the most exhilarating thing he had ever
done. He loved his family. It was important to him to do nice things for them, such as building a
footbridge over the creek on the farm for the family children to enjoy when they visited. He will
be sorely missed by all.

Wayne is survived by his mother Barbara Davis, stepmother Barbara Byerly, daughter
Catherine Byerly and grandson Connor Byerly, sisters Susan West, Dana Costello, Terri
Pierman (John), and Dianne Byerly, nieces and nephews Ralph Clark (Corenda), Brandi Morris,
Aubrey Costello, Phillip Costello (Amy), Travis Costello (Natalie), Zachary Costello (Sonia),
Randal Crosby (Lindsay), Tristan Crosby, Brooke McManus, Jordyn Shaffer, and numerous
aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces, and great nephews.
Wayne is predeceased by his father Paul Wayne Byerly, Sr., his grandparents Barbara
Ashburn, Trotwood Ashburn, Henry Olan Gaither, James Byerly, Ether Scott, Leslie Zumm, and
Lillian Zumm, and brother-in-law David West.

To honor Wayne’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. The family requests that in lieu of
flowers, please make a donation in his memory to your preferred charity or cause. Wayne had a
special place in his heart for charities that feed starving children.
