Walter E. "Terry" Sweeney

Walter E. Sweeney "Terry" known to many as "Coach" passed away Sunday to be with his wife, Anetha; father, Walter; mother, Frances; and brothers, Jackie and Jimmy.
He faithfully served his country in the US Army. He played for General Neyland of UT, Bubba Murphy of MTSU, and Weeb Ewbanks of the Baltimore Colts. From this, he was inspired to coach at the High School and Collegiate level at Sevier County, Bradley Central, and Middle Tennessee State University. He then went on to serve as principle at Sevier County High School and Gatlinburg Pittman High School.
He is survived by his sister, Frances Callahan; children, Terry, Shawn, and Tracy Sweeney; grandchildren, Ben Sweeney (Ashley), Olivia Gravelle (Mark), Haleigh Sweeney, and Cory Dodson; great-grandchildren, McMillan Sweeney, Addison and Hatcher Joseph Gravelle, Maddox Sweeney, and Jagger Cantrell; along with other extended family and friends.
A celebration of life memorial service is planned for 7:00pm on Tuesday September 26, 2017 at Companion Funeral Home, located at 2419 Georgetown Road NW, with Dr. Jay McCluskey officiating the service.
The family will receive friends two hours prior from 5:00pm until the 7:00pm service time at the funeral home.
