Velma Maurice "Maurie" Seeley

April 16, 1936 — October 9, 2022

Velma Maurice (Maurie) Seeley (April 16, 1936-October 9, 2022) passed away peacefully at home on October 9, 2022. Maurie was a member of the Kingston United Methodist Church, Kingston, Tennessee.

She was born in Kentucky, moved to Piqua, Ohio as a young child, and eventually her family settled in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She graduated from Grand Rapids Junior College with an Associate’s degree and became an Executive Secretary. She met Bill, her husband, in 1959 and they married in 1960. They spent 62 wonderful years together with the past 23 years in Eastern Tennessee.

They moved from Grand Rapids to Detroit where they adopted Brian. They were members of the Rehoboth Reformed Church and then moved to Oklahoma City where they adopted Susan. Several other moves were made with the church always being a very important part of getting acquainted with the new community. She was very active in both the church and ladies’ groups with leadership positions. She loved people but her first love was God, her family and friends which meant everything to her.

She never met a stranger; within just a few minutes of talking with Maurie, she was someone with whom you could share your heart. There was just that much love radiating from her. Everyone who met Maurie could see the light of Christ shining through her.

Maurie had a beautiful singing voice that she used to praise the Lord often, singing in every choir at every church they attended. She loved to write, and would write poems and was working on her memoirs when she went to be with the Lord. She was looking forward to singing in the heavenly choirs and spoke of it often.

Maurie and Bill were very active in the churches they attended leading two youth groups, helping start a street front church and becoming Stephen Ministers. They were also active in taking children into their home from the inter-cities for several weeks at a time as well as hosting two international students, one from Germany and one from Costa Rica

She was proceeded in death by her mother Velma, her father Maurice and her brother Dale. She is survived by her husband Bill; Brian (son), Robin, Jennifer and Christopher; Susan (daughter), Richard, Anthony and Thomas (Blake), Mike (brother), Cathy.

She lived a wonderful full life and will be sorely missed! Memorial services will be held on October 22, 2022 at the Kingston United Methodist Church, Kingston, Tennessee at 2:00PM.
