Stewart Reid Mcchesney, Jr.

November 14, 1937 — August 11, 2019

Stewart R. McChesney, 81, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 11, 2019, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Stewart was born in Oklahoma City, OK and moved to Casper, WY where he met his wife of 58 years, Dorothy. In his early years, Stewart was an avid snow skier and tried out for the US Olympics. After breaking both legs during training for the ski jumping event, he took up golf as physical therapy and fell in love with the game. After being raised in the Catholic church, he later converted to the Baptist faith through the influence of his mother and surrendered to preach in 1965. During that time, he pastored many churches in Texas and Colorado, touching many, many lives. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard Payne University on a full golf scholarship and his Master of Divinity from Southwestern Theological Seminary in 1975. He retired from the ministry in 1985 at which time he founded Titus Stewardship Ministries to teach and preach stewardship. Steward led and was part of many mission trips that included Sweden, Africa, Korea, and France. He was also a pilot, like his dad before him. Stewart met many influential friends along the way that included Bob Hope, Jimmy Carter, Gary Player, and Bob Lilly.

Stewart now walks hand in hand on the streets of gold with his wife, Dorothy, who passed in 2013.

Stewart leaves behind a son, Reid McChesney (Brenda) of Fortson, GA; a daughter, Beth McChesney Baltimore (Curtis) of Birchwood, TN; a brother, Don C. McChesney (Shelley) of Youngsville, NC and six grandchildren, Luke McChesney (Becky) of Ft. Collins, CO; Aaron McChesney of Fortson, GA; Danielle McChesney (Pat) of Champaign, IL; Matthew Baltimore (Jade) of Chattanooga, TN; Grant McChesney (Becca) of Columbus, GA; and Kyle Baltimore of Tacoma, WA. Stewart also leaves behind ten beautiful great-grandchildren, Eve, Jade, Grayson, Cloud, Willow, Norah, Harvey, Wilson, Sage, and Ella.

A celebration service will take place on Friday, August 16, 2019 at Companion Funeral Home, 2415 Georgetown Road, Cleveland, TN. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. with the service to follow at 11. Flowers are welcome as well as donations in Stewart’s memory to the Alzheimer Association of Chattanooga.
