Stewart Perry Etlinger

August 9, 1960 — April 30, 2020

Stewart Perry Etlinger, 59, passed quietly in his sleep on Thursday, April 30, 2020. A kind and generous straight shooter, Stewart never complained about the chronic pain he was in from several medical conditions.
Stew always took the time to listen to the problems and successes of friends, family, and even strangers. Always a quick wit with a sparkle in his eye, Stew was passionate about many things.
He loved hockey, dogs, music (especially Led Zeppelin), motorcycles, food, and especially his family and friends. A truer friend you would never find. Stew was born in Troy, NY, on August 9, 1960, and attended LaSalle Institute. He went on to train in the culinary arts where he cooked for a variety of upstate NY restaurants.
After the death of his father, Dr. Sidney Etlinger (1993), his destiny led him to move to Florida and then Chattanooga, TN with his beloved mother, Esther Benezra Etlinger.
His passion for sports led him to open a very successful sports card trading company, Powerplay Collectibles, which he ran with his mother. They were well known and loved in the collectibles world and always enjoyed attending all the trade shows.
Stew was preceded in death by his father and mother, Dr. Sidney and Esther Etlinger and his beloved cousin Barry (Kathy) Benezra. He is survived by his uncle, Ralph (Esther) Benezra; first cousins, Joanne Brown, Susan Benezra Pisani (Sal), Lara Benezra, Serena (Javy) Benezra Anaya, Robert (Meryl) Benezra, Kathy Hariss Benezra and many second cousins, and many dear friends.
Donations in memory may be made to McKamey Animal Shelter.
You are invited to share a personal memory of Stewart or your condolences with his family at his online memorial located at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral & Cremation Service and the Cody family are honored to assist the Etlinger family with these arrangements.
