Steven Paul Orders

October 3, 1949 — September 28, 2020

Today I must encapsulate the life of someone I not only love but admire and trust. A man whose biography is one of kind, loving good deeds could fill volumes but must be kept simple as it is his obituary announcement. Last night, I had to say goodbye to one of the loves of my life. A man whose great love of God surpasses that of most people I have ever known. To say I was blessed and so grateful that such a person could choose me to be his wife is an understatement because only God knows how I managed to become the wife of such an amazing man. Steven Paul Orders went to be with the Lord September 28, 2020. He was not a local Clevelander like me but after he decided to make Cleveland his home, he made a wonderful mark as a new citizen here. Most know him as the nice-looking guy that seems to appear all over Cleveland working toward some promotion of God and love of others in his simple, black, manual wheelchair. Others know him as the side kick of the Amazing Reverend Max Morris from His Hands Extended. Others from New Hope Pregnancy Center know him as board leader, friend, supporter giver. Others know him as a wounded, wheelchair Vietnam veteran who seems to have one up on the devil as he witnesses his amazing miraculous ordeal in Vietnam, introducing people to the real miracles of God. Steve is the holder of two purple hearts and other medals he was presented due to his efforts in the Vietnam war. He was humble and felt the walk he began with God when he was wounded and paralyzed by a sniper, outweighed any medal the army could give him. His testament to God and the many miracles that followed him to his end of days, was far greater than those medals. I remain in awe of this man; my husband and I pray that my unusual obituary for him will do him justice. Steve loved the Lord with all his heart and soul. It was his goal to try to bring people to the Lord as well as minister to them and teach them about God’s love. He has been a part of ministering to people behind bars, to people who have great wealth to those who are weary and lonely and lost. I feel I could never find enough adjectives to do this wonderful man justice. Then, here I am trying to narrow all his goodness into a few words. I know that one of the great loves that Steve was oh so proud of was our son, Peyton. To say he was a good dad is also an understatement. Our son was born premature at 25 weeks and demanded constant care. Although Steve had never had a child before but it was so natural and as if he had been caring for him for years. Always a hands-on dad, Steve was all about that sweet baby, Peyton. He took such pride and joy introducing him to people and he loved reading Peyton’ little child Bible and explaining the stories in a way Peyton could understand. He took time for Peyton, he took time for God and he took time for people, always putting others first. There are no words to explain this man’s wonderful love of other except it was true, it was genuine, and it was directly from God. Steve moved to Cleveland from Ohio, where he has some wonderful family members as well. I know that Heaven has opened its gates to a real Angel and all the pain and suffering he has endured is no longer holding him prisoner. So, fly high my Angel on Wheels.

Steve leaves behind his loving wife, Penny Theresa Lawson Orders from Cleveland, TN and his loving son, Steven Peyton Orders who is a senior at Walker Valley High School. A stepson, William Barton Chase (Wife Aleta Walker Chase, daughter Audriana Elise Perkinson) of Cleveland, TN
A stepdaughter, Whitney Diahann Cannon (daughter Taylar Clarissa Jean Taylor, husband Logan Taylor Behr Mikel Taylor, also his Great Grandson) of Cleveland (Thaddeus Bartlon Quinn Cannon) Hixson, TN
Sis-in-love, Pamela Sue Lawson Bramlett (son, Gregory Tyler Bramlett& wife Courtney Bramlett, children Cheyenne Miller, son Zander Miller. Arrie Bramlett, Alyssa Bramlett, Joshua Bramlett, Mattie & Luke) Cleveland, TN

Steve is the son of Ervil J. Orders (deceased) and Nina L. Smith (deceased) and stepfather, Delmar Smith, Ohio
His Big Brother, Dave M. Orders (deceased) wife Dottie Dobbins Orders and Children of Charleston, WV
His Sister, Karen M. Orders Gillis , husband Rhem Gillis and children, Salem, OH
His younger brother, Thomas Orders, wife Joyce & children, Marietta, OH
Steve also leaves behind many extended family members and friends. He will be greatly missed but his good deeds will continue to remain a legacy of his love of God and others.
Steve loves music ministry, which was actually the beginning of our courtship. One of his favorite groups was the Gaither’s with Anthony Burger. Our first date was to go hear Anthony in concert at Pathway Bookstore in 2000. I was pleased to introduce him to my cousin Anthony Burger which seems to be one of the most memorable evenings in our relationship which eventually lead to our marriage.
Steve told us when it was time, he wanted a celebration of his life as he left this world…. he wanted the Gaither’s playing as he took his journey to be with his Father. This is exactly the way he went out, on his terms with the Gaither’s singing, us holding and loving him as he departed this world back to be with God the Father.
