Shirley Jayne Deaton

August 15, 1957 — April 20, 2023

Shirley Jayne Deaton, 65, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2023. She was of theChristian faith. She was born in Milford, UT, spent 40 years in Bakersfield, CA, and was a resident of Cleveland, TN, for 24 years. Shirley enjoyed bird watching—especially hummingbirds. With her 30+ year career at H&R Block, she enjoyed any activity to do with numbers. She also enjoyed spending time with her family whom she loved beyond words. She loved many hands-on crafts such as sewing, crocheting, and needlework. She also enjoyed reading, playing Hayday online with her family and friends, and planting in her flower gardens. Shirley was always a bright spirit full of jokes and laughter. She had a kind and giving heart, ready to help anyone in need, was devoted to her family, and always had an active role in their lives. She was strong willed, resilient, and above all, had a loving soul.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Maxwell (Grandpa Bill); brother, Gary Maxwell; grandmother, Ruby Culbreath; and uncle, Artis J.R. Guthrie (Uncle Art).

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband of 32 years, Terry Deaton; her sons: Donny Bright (Gillian) and William "Eddy" Tilley (Shasta); brother, Tommy Maxwell; grandchildren: Gasmine, Elizabeth, E.J., Dakota, Ilyssa, and Lorayle; her mother, Doris Maxwell; aunt, Janice Kazy; nephew, Bryon Maxwell; niece Tiffany Cunningham; cousins: Robbie Wolfe, Diana Evans, and Gina Maxwell, and several great nieces and nephews, cousins, and her H&R Block family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to the American Cancer Society in Shirley's honor.

There will be a visitaiton on Monday, May 1, from 3-7pm at Companion Funeral Home Cleveland Chapel with a service to follow at 7pm with Pastor Jeff Duncan officiating.

Shirley drew strength from Psalms 91:1-2: ”Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.”
