Shirley Ann May

October 23, 1937 — February 21, 2019

Shirley Ann May, 81 of Cleveland, TN. went home to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, February 21, 2019. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She took pride in caring for her family, especially her grandchildren who she adored. Shirley was a homemaker and worked part time in earlier years at the Tomlinson Home for Children where she touched many young lives. She loved the outdoors, growing flowers and watching out for the many species of birds that visited her yard. Shirley was a member of Maple Street Baptist Church where she served alongside her husband Bob in benevolence work.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Ada Mae Burke, Raymond Burke, brother Larry Burke, and her husband Robert H. May Sr. all of Cleveland, Tn.

She is survived by her siblings Charles Burke (Nan) of McDonough, Georgia, Billy Joe Burke of Cleveland and Jerry Burke of Evergreen, Alabama. Sons Robert H. May Jr. (Marilyn) of Soddy Daisy, Tn. and Mark May (Renee’) of Cleveland, grandchildren Robert Eric May (Jennifer) of St. Louis Missouri, Katie Tenile May of Cleveland, Tn,, step grandchildren Katrice Cox (Charles) Soddy, Daisy Tn., and Jason Stone of Powell, Tn. Great grandchildren Raegan, Parker and Lincoln May of St. Louis, Missouri, step great grandchildren Avery and Emma Cox of Soddy Daisy, Tn. and Braydon Stone of Powell, Tn., several brother-in-law’s and sister-in-law’s and many nieces, and nephews.
Also, special friends Elaine Hayward and Sherrie Haswell.

The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Marcum, the Tennova MICU staff, Tennova E.R. staff and Signature HeathCare for their compassionate care of our mother these last 7 weeks.

The family will receive friends at the Companion Funeral Home in Cleveland, Tn., Saturday March 2, 2019 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 5:00 p.m. with the Reverend Alan Stewart officiating.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Lung Association in Shirley’s memory.
