Sheryl Rozzette Gash

February 6, 1947 — May 14, 2023

Sheryl Rozzette Person Gash, age 76, affectionately known to family as “Sissie”, born in Cleveland, TN on February 6, 1947, transitioned from mortality to Eternal Rest on Sunday, May 14, 2023, at Tennova Medical Center.


Sheryl is preceded in death by her father, William Person; her youngest son, Brandon D. Gash; and her sister, Annsonia Hickey.


Sheryl was a graduate of College Hill High School in 1965. She graduated second in her class. She attended Knoxville College in Knoxville, TN.


She gave her life to the Lord early in life. She was a member of Cross Pointe Church of God, under the pastoralship of Pastor Oliver McMahan. She deeply loved her pastor and her church family. She was church secretary and loved working in the various church duties faithfully.


Sheryl loved reading, gardening, yard sales, thrift store shopping, and auctions.


Sheryl loved spending time with her family garden club friends, a person very serious about life. She loved music and attending ball games with her children in their early years of life. She worked for several years at JC Penney and later secretary at Soil Conservation until retirement.


She leaves to cherish her memories her much loved family, her son Darius T. Gash; her mother, Betty L. Person; her sister, Aunderice Nance (James); brothers, William Person (Peggy) and Lowell Person (Kimberly); one uncle, Rev. Harry Johnson (Lenta); one aunt, Lillian Thompson; one great aunt Mabel Johnson; two grandchildren, Cabrahn Gash of Dallas, TX and Tylan Gash of Bloomington, MN; one great grandchild of Dallas, TX; two nieces, Kelbi Person and Nicole Person; six nephews, Paul and Douglas Bryant, Jason and Barrett Person, Gerald and Johnny Hickey; father to her children, whom she was caretaker of, Harry Gash, Jr.; as well as other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Special friends Joan Stewart, Charlotte Scott, and dear neighbor and friend Sue Self, all of which she loved dearly.


Pallbearers will be family and friends with classmates and members of Altagate Garden Club to serve as flower bearers.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 3:00 pm at Crosspointe Church of God with Pastor Oliver McMahan and Pastor Rodney Dunn officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm prior to the service. A graveside service will follow at 4:30 pm at Fort Hill Cemetery in Cleveland, Tennessee.
