She was born at Erlanger hospital on September 19,1965. She married the love of her life Lon Gravett August 10, 1990. Her mother Shirley Roberson was holding here hand as she left this world.
Shelby graduated from Red Bank High School. She started working at Silverdale detention center where she met her husband. She would jokingly tell anyone who asked where they had met in jail. They would marry soon after an the following is a recollection of that day told by him.

”My wife Shelby was a beautiful bride. We decided to tie the knot way back in August of 1990. I was working on the Old Washington Ferry out where highway 30 crosses the Tennessee river. I asked my boss Charles Smith if it was alright if we married on the ferry when it closed at sunset. Charles and his family were always good to us. They even threw us a reception on their lawn. Both of our parents were there. Our immediate families. I worked hard painting the tugboat before the ceremony.
My baby was so beautiful. Her long hair. Her loving eyes. Her warm smile. I can see it like it was yesterday. I even wore a pink shirt for her. Do you know how hard it is to get a hayseed boy like I was to wear a pink shirt? But that’s what she wanted. It made her happy. And seeing her happy has always been what makes me happy.
This was probably the first time in my life that I felt like a grown man. I was marrying my beautiful Shelby. The woman I love. My one. I was so happy. She was radiant. Oh my beautiful, wonderful baby. To go back and do it all over again. “
