Sergeant First Class Peter Bruce Mcguire

July 14, 1952 — July 17, 2017

Sergeant First Class, Peter Bruce McGuire, 65, went home to be with Lord on July 17, 2017. A veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and member of the Tennessee Army National Guard. Sergeant First Class McGuire was a brave and loyal soldier, as well as a loving husband, father and papaw.

Sergeant First Class McGuire was born on July 14, 1952 in Englewood, NJ to Herbert “Jon” and Gwendolyn McGuire. He grew up with a passion for trains and cars which carried on throughout his life. In 1969 he came to Athens, TN where he met the love of his life, Betsy Allieen Jennings. He married Betsy Allieen Jennings on December 22, 1973 in Riceville, TN.

In 1978, he joined the Tennessee Army National Guard, were he served honorably for 29 years. Sergeant First Class McGuire received the Order of Saint Barbara and Meritorious Service Medal awards, along with many other honors during his military service.

He is survived by Allieen, his wife of 43 years, his four daughters and their spouses; Jennifer and Chris Dake, Mandy and Ben Linkous, Bethany McGuire, and Emily McGuire, his brother and sister in law Ken and Oogie McGuire of Western Colorado, and his six grandchildren; Maddie and Micah Dake, Ellie, Sadie, Benson, and Graham Linkous. Multiple brothers and sisters in law, many nieces and nephews as well as an extensive military family, which he lovingly referred to as his boys.

He is preceded in death by his mother Gwendolyn and father Jon McGuire.

A celebration of life service will take place at Tennessee National Guard Armory in Athens, TN located at 413 County Road 554 on Saturday July 22nd. Family will receive friends from 1-5pm with service following at 6:00pm. The service will be officiated by Rev. Bill Dickerson and Rev. Ben Linkous. A private interment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations may be sent to Allieen to help with medical expenses.
