Sally Carter Sentell

September 30, 1935 — September 20, 2020

Sally Sentell, Mom, slipped away peacefully into the arms of Jesus at 5:45 Sunday Morning September 20th. Sally was the daughter of the late Granville and Tuby Carter. She was preceded in death by her former husband and father of her children Robert Sentell.
She was well known in Knoxville, TN in the 1950s when she began to win a series of talent contests when the “NBC News Talent USA” came to town.
She competed at the Tennessee Theater and won, getting a standing ovation. After winning locally, she won over Syracuse, NY, Fargo North Dakota, and Spokane Washington. Her judges were the well-known composers Richard Rodgers and Roger Hammerstein. She won trips to Hollywood California, appearing on Nationwide Television and New York appearing on stage at the NBC Rockefeller Plaza. When the Bob Hope Show came to Knoxville, she appeared on stage, singing, and playing her own accompaniment in September 1953.
She did all of this as a 17-year-old High School Senior, she was a gifted pianist and singer.
She later was the pianist in a church plant in the 1960s, called West Hills Baptist Church. It is still operating today and doing well. Her greatest accomplishment in life, her four sons: Chris, Gary, Rick and Ray, whom she cherished until her death. She loved her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was an amazing Mom and will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her adopted parents Tuby Monda Lee Carter and Granville Clifton Carter; birth parents Harry and Billie Mitchell; sister Sandra Gail Ward; former husband Robert Eugene Sentell.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory four sons: Chris (Patti) Sentell, Gary (Cindy) Sentell, Rick (Lori) Sentell, and Ray Sentell; grandchildren: Laura Valentine, Ashley Sexton (Chris), Beth Sentell, Cale Sentell (Heather), Joseph Sentell (Ainsley), Sarah Emily Still (Ryan), Katriel Sentell, and Lorin Sentell; brother Ronald Franklin Coleman; eighteen grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Thursday September 24, 2020 at Companion Funeral Home located at 2419 Georgetown RD NW, Cleveland, TN 37311. A celebration of Sally’s life will be held at 7:00pm following the visitation.
She will be laid to rest at Lee Cemetery at 10:00am on Friday September 25, 2020.
