Obituary

Ruth Meeks, 86, of Cleveland, TN passed away on Monday January 19, 2015 at a Chattanooga Hospital. She was born on January 16, 1929 to the late Cecil and Ethel Hamby. She was a lifelong resident of the Cleveland area. Ruth had a very entrepreneurial mindset, owning her own pocketbook business at one point in her life.

In addition to her mother and father, she is preceded in death by three sisters: Arizona Hamby, Alene Sexton, and Christine Morgan.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband of 71 years, James Meeks Sr.; three children: Shirlene Hewitt (Mickey), James Meeks Jr., Mitchell Meeks (Patricia); sister Jean Kuykendall; seven grandchildren: Bradley Meeks (Nicole), Natalie Meeks, Lisa Towe, Chris Hewitt (Emily), Brandy Hewitt, James Meeks III (Kelly), Tonya Meeks Clark; eleven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. In addition to these, she leaves behind several other nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 7:00pm on Thursday January 22, 2015 at Companion Funeral Home located at 2419 Georgetown RD NW, Cleveland, TN 37311. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm-7:00pm prior to the service.
