Ruben "Cotton" Shadden

Obituary
Ruben Leland "Cotton" Shadden, 78, of Birchwood, TN passed away on December 4, 2014 at his home after a long battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of Birchwood, Cotton was born on December 31, 1935 to the late William Henry and Gladys Campbell Shadden. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Birchwood Baptist Church. Cotton was a dairy farmer by trade, practicing for more than forty years. He was an avid outdoorsman, fan of the Tennessee Vols, Atlanta Braves, and NASCAR Racing. He also enjoyed spending time at the beach with his family. During his life he served on many boards and committees: TN Farm Bureau of Meigs County, Meigs County Farmer Co-Op, Democrat Executive Committee, FSA Committee and McInturff Cemetery Committee. He was named Jaycees Young Farmer of the Year at one time in Meigs County. Above all things, Cotton will be remembered as a tremendously hard worker, loving husband, father, and grandfather that will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his mother and father, he is preceded in death by one brother Kenneth Shadden.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of sixty years, Bobbie Shadden; one daughter Lori Bacon (Greg); grandson Bradley Bacon (Jessica); two brothers: J.T. Shadden (Shirley) of Cleveland, TN and Harold Shadden of Erwin, TN; sister Emma Jean Hixson of Georgetown,TN. In addition to these he leaves behind several other extended family members and friends. The family would also like to thank the special caregivers who have extended care to Cotton over the past two years during his illness.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00pm on Saturday December 6, 2014 at Birchwood Baptist Church located at 5436 Highway 60, Birchwood, TN 37308 with Rev. Ronnie Powell and Rev. David Delmotte officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm-4:00pm prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in McInturff Cemetery with Greg Bacon, Bradley Bacon, Jeff Shadden, Brent Shadden, Ben O'Daniel, and Greg "Bunky" Sims serving as pallbearers.
