Roberta Ileane Shoemate, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away on May 22, 2023, at the age of 84, surrounded by her family at her residence in Dayton, Tennessee. She was born on March 8, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late George and Lillian Braam (nee Protzer). Roberta resided in the Dayton area for 61 years after moving from California. She was a devoted member of the Baptist faith.

Roberta lived a vibrant and adventurous life. She had a passion for camping and exploring new places, enjoying the freedom and beauty of the great outdoors. Bird watching was one of her favorite pastimes, as she found joy in observing and learning about different bird species. She also had a flair for shopping and appreciated finding treasures during her excursions. Roberta was known for her independent spirit, always ready to take on new challenges and embrace life's experiences.

Above all, Roberta was a loving and caring woman, always there to lend a helping hand and provide a shoulder to lean on for those in need. Her family held a special place in her heart, and she adored her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Their presence brought immense joy to her life, and she cherished the time spent with them.

Roberta is survived by her daughters, Sandy Lovelady, Sheryl Proffitt, and Stacey Tyrell, as well as her son, Steve Shoemate. She leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth through her grandchildren: Amanda Rhodes, April Wallace, Shelley Smith Wampler, Holly Bartosek, Jacklyn Dodd, Stephanie Mills, Crystal Schwiger, Jeremy Shoemate, Jesse Shoemate, Jade Shoemate, Georgia Lovelady, Braam Lovelady, Montana Lovelady, and her great-grandchildren: Alexis Shipley, Cole Bailey, Hailey Wallace, Harley Drouillard, Brayton Inch, Hvada Lovelady, Skylyn Dodd, and many great-great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George Braam and Lillian Protzer, as well as her brothers, Warren and George Braam.

The arrangements have been entrusted to Companion Funeral and Cremation Service, Cleveland Chapel. The family will hold a private memorial to honor Roberta's life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, an organization that holds personal significance to them.

As we say goodbye to Roberta, we carry her memory in our hearts and remember the love and compassion she shared with those around her.
