Rebecca Young Freeman

August 14, 1950 — July 31, 2022

Rebecca “Becky” Young Freeman, 72, of Chattanooga, awakened in Heaven on July 31, 2022.

Becky was born on August 14, 1950, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to James and Sue Brogdon. She was the little sister of Elaine Jewett and the big sister of Mark Brogdon and Paula Shaw, of Jackson, Mississippi. Paula is the only surviving member of the Brogdon clan and was very special to her big sister. They had a relationship most sisters would envy, and Paula will very much miss her sister. Becky also adored Paula’s husband, Jim Shaw (preceded her in death), who she often called her hero.
She was a loving and devoted mother to three daughters, Beth Freeman (Frank) of Cleveland, Jamie Chapman (Jason) of Phoenix and Amy Mann (John) of Cleveland.

She was the kind of mother who would go without to make sure her girls not only had the things they needed in life but also as many desires of their hearts she could provide. She sacrificed so much for her family, and they want to make sure everyone reading this knows it!

Her favorite title though was Nana and any of her grandchildren would tell you she was one of a kind. She was Nana to Zachary Freeman of Cleveland, Joseph Freeman (preceded her in death), Rebekah Freeman, of Cleveland, Gloria and Logan Bell, of Ft. Drum, New York and Sarah Freeman, of Cleveland.

She was the wife to her second husband, George Freeman of Cleveland. Her first husband, Raymond Young, preceded her in death.

While she was devoted to her family, Becky was also devoted to her relationship with Jesus. A note she wrote and found after her death puts it best, in her own words. “I love you Jesus. Thank you for taking care of my family. I could not make it through this without you. You make me smile. You make my life worthwhile. Your Spirit dwells within me to protect, indwell and fill me. Knowing you is all that matters.”

Becky loved Southern Gospel Music, especially the Gaither Vocal Band. When she was sick, she found comfort in listening to the music, often joining in with her beautiful singing voice. She once wrote about the happiest time of her life and said it was when she is in full time ministry with her first husband, Raymond, in West Frankfort Illinois. Becky said getting to minister and be a mom full time made those the happiest years of her life.
Becky worked as a legal executive assistant for much of her professional life and ended her career as a clerk and accountant at the Bradley County Courthouse.

Becky was known for her ability to love unconditionally and without limit. If she loved you, you knew you were loved for the rest of her life. Her absence from the Earth makes it a little less bright for not only her family, but for anyone who knew her.
She will be remembered with a funeral Thursday, August 4, 2022 at 7PM and Faith Memorial Church in Cleveland, Tennessee. Visitation with the family will take place from 4 until 7 ahead of the final farewell.
