Peggy Duke Brown

May 17, 1936 — April 15, 2022

Our much adored and beloved mother went to sleep in the Lord on Good Friday. Her family’s tears and grief caused by her departing will never end. Peggy was raised in Marion County, Tennessee. She spent her lifetime joyfully working and later enjoying several hobbies upon retirement. Peggy dabbled in painting with oils, excelled in culinary endeavors, mastered quilting and embroidery (every stitch by hand), she delighted in gardening vegetables and flowers, penning beautiful poems and holiday parties. More recently her favored pastimes were getting her mani pedis, watching artist Bob Ross shows and reminiscing with family about her ancestors. She had a great love for nature and all animals but an especial affinity for dogs, birds and frogs. Her children often wondered jokingly whether they were counted as part of her beloved frog group. She was blessed with an innate sense of panache and style and not afraid to show it. Throughout her life, “I did it my way”, was the motto by which she lived. She was a fiercely independent person up to the very end. Peggy never met a stranger nor left anyone in need still wanting for food or help. She worshipped at many places throughout the years and believed that God was not limited in presence nor love by our human understanding. During the 1960s Peggy completed PBX operator training in addition to earning numerous other coursework and certifications throughout the years. Past employers in various capacities were DuPont, Comoro Park Interior Decorators (Brainerd Village & Amnicola area locations), Cavalier Corporation (lab), Singer, Lozier Corporation and Georgia Pacific. Peggy was predeceased by parents John and Gussie Duke, a daughter Myra Dolberry, sisters Frances Blevins Hankins, Shelby Blevins, Edith Faulkner and a brother Master Sergeant - Mobile Advisory Team - John Duke (Ret). She is survived by a daughter Shannon (Jeff) Dorr and her cherished son, the joy of her life and lifelong compadre in all things Avery Brown, four grandchildren,10 great grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren . The family will host a celebration of life service at a later date.
